Program Overview
The Pathways to Purpose Youth Workforce Academy is a free 6-week workforce training and leadership development program designed to prepare youth ages 13–19 for real employment opportunities within the community. The academy equips youth with essential job skills, professionalism, financial literacy, leadership, and hands-on experiences that position them for summer jobs, weekend jobs, internships, and long-term career pathways.
6 Week Training Outline:
Week 1 - Purpose & Professionalism:
Students explore personal goals, career aspirations, and the importance of workplace professionalism. This week builds a strong foundation through communication skills, expectations, and confidence-building exercises.
Week 2 - Job Skills Lab:
Hands-on training introduces core competencies in customer service, retail support, event staffing, childcare, and basic technology use. Students learn practical, real-world skills that prepare them for diverse job opportunities.
Week 3 - Leadership & Conflict Resolution:
This week focuses on teamwork, accountability, and effective decision-making. Students learn how to navigate workplace challenges, resolve conflicts constructively, and communicate as emerging leaders.
Week 4 - Financial Literacy:
Students gain a clear understanding of gross vs. net income, taxes, deductions, and year-to-date earnings. They also learn how to read a check stub and manage finances responsibly as they enter the workforce.
Week 5 - Resume & Interviews:
Students build polished, job-ready resumes and practice through mock interviews. Training includes Zoom etiquette—professional backgrounds, lighting, posture, timing, and communication—to prepare for both in-person and virtual hiring processes.
Week 6 - Hiring Day:
The program concludes with job shadowing opportunities and an employer meet-and-greet. Students connect directly with hiring partners and showcase the skills they’ve developed throughout the program.

What Work Means to Me
“Having a job is essential for developing independence and responsibility. This will allow me to earn my own money for savings and personal expenses. It also offers valuable work experiences, boosts self esteem, and teaches important skills such as time management and communication.
— Jasmine S. Junior
“Having a job helps me stay busy and out of trouble. It gives me something positive to do and keeps me from getting caught up in ‘teen takeovers’ trends just because I'm bored or looking for other kids to hang around. Actually working, a real job, can help me connect to more people my age in a positive way and I can learn at the same time”
